When I firsted started Jane Eyre, I thought it was an okay book. I thought it was a really good book when I was introduced to all of the different characters and motifs. The conflict between the characters really made it interesting. I was always wanting to read more. The story started to fall apart for me at least towards the end of the book. When Jane was introduced to her cousins, I thought, how unrealistic. Then she goes back to Rochester and everything seems to be perfect except for his injury. It's so simple. It is what it is though. I probably won't ever read it again.
I really liked all of the motifs in the book. It really made me focus. The only thing that was a let down for me was the simple ending. It's just a typical happy love story. I think that Jane Eyre could be taught again, because it really makes students read. Not just plain reading though. Close reading. The only problem I see with teaching it is that some students just find it boring. People are like that though.
My thoughts exactly Leif. Looking back I am glad that I did take the time to get through it but it is not a book that i am willing to dive into again. It's good to have this book under my belt, and I think it is a good book to teach in class.
